I judge Chinese restaurants by 1 and only 1 dish. Their sweet and sour shrimp. Unfortunately, China Chef has failed. They supply the run-of-the-mill "ring" of heavily battered shrimp with separate dipping sauce. By the time you get through 2 of them, the breading is soggy on the rest. The red dipping sauce has unidentified black specks in it. The white rice they served was neither fresh nor hot. The egg drop soup was cold by the time we got home - a whole 6 minutes away - so neither my husband nor I touched it. The fried wonton skins that come with the soup tasted like rancid oil. Change your frying oil! My husband got chicken lo mein which was OK. He threw out half of it and complained of a stomach ache the next day. I am beginning to believe that Milwaukee just doesn't have great food.

Ordered the Hot and Spicy shrimp and chicken, Singapore Noodles, and Shrimp Egg Roll. All the shrimp was tough, flavorless, and over cooked. The noodles weren't spicy at all and were missing green onions and sprouts. All in all flavorless. The egg roll outside was over done, flavorless and the inside wasn't fully cooked. This was also a delivery and they neglected to provide me with chop sticks, fork, or napkins! I have ordered from China Hut since moving to the south side and it's so far been a better bet and better quality ingredients. Don't waste your time or money at this place.

We live about 3 minutes from this restaurant ,yet I never heard of it until reading an article about it. I guess it's a well kept secret ! We went there for the lunch buffet . My first thought was -- it's so small ! Once I sampled the food , it was obvious that their chef actually HAND MADE this food -- not reheated junk restaurant food . It's delicious ! I went there 3 different times for the buffet in one month. It was the same exact food all the time . I don't know if it changes . For about $7 ish - it's fantastic & I highly recommend it !

A staple to the South Milwaukee lunch crowd. It's a fairly stereotypical Chinese restaurant with arches and other 'traditional' adornments. The main draw is the lunch buffet. The buffet and a drink is less than 10 bucks. The food has pretty quick turnover and everything is fairly well stocked. Dishes run a little meat heavy, but there are definitely some veggie options to those protein procrastinators. South Milwaukee food choices are limited, and this is one of the better ones.

Their buffet if great. Have been there lots of times. However, the take out sucks Big Time! I ordered breaded chicken and it was so over fried, dry and tough. My husbands food was so salty he could hardly eat it. We will never order take out again from them.

We have gotten carryout several times from this place. The food is decent but the rice is mostly all onion and is yellow, which apparently is common around here. Milwaukee has a few that has real fried rice that is brown, however that is a little far from us. If anyone knows of a place that has real fried rice closer, please let me know!

Really good food. Small buffet. The waitresses are very friendly. Be careful if you bring a baby in. They may want to pick him up. The buffet has good food and they keep it stocked pretty well all the way to the end time.

Place is dirty carpeting is stained. Service is extremely slow. The manager delivered my appetizer to the wrong table; then when the table said it was not theirs she brought it to me. my drink sat empty for about 10 minutes I almost had to get my own drink refill. Then our orders only half came out I had to get up from my seat and find the waitress to find out about the rest of our order she said its coming and went back to using her phone. I then went to the manager that was taking a call in order, she put that call on hold went to the back room got the rest of the order; then left that call on hold for 6 minutes. ************************************* Waring **************************************** the manager speaks very loud and repeats credit card info back to callers so everyone in the dining room can hear your credit card number and expiration date ************************************ Waring ****************************************

I love this place! I come here a few times a month with my family, and I come from Milwaukee's north west side. Of course we have out favorites like honey chicken and seafood double fried noodles, but everything we have had is absolutely fantastic! I highly recommend this place

I have eaten at several Chinese buffets in my time, and usually they are not very good, average at best. China chef is well above that expectation. The food on the buffet is kept fresh, and hot. It is incredibly consistent. I get the same great flavor and texture from each dish every time I have it! Which is far mor than I cansay for most places. The green beans and General Tso's chicken are fantastic. The price in also great!

I work pretty close to this place and was dragged there by co-workers on a Friday for the lunch buffet. I had zero expectations going into it because well... I've had Chinese food in China and you just can't top it. I was pleasantly surprised though, enough to order carry-out on the weekends. The China Chef is better than other Chinese places I have been to in Milwaukee. My recommendations are to go for the Empress or Sichuan Chicken and maybe a side order of Asparagus. The dinner combinations, in American Chinese restaurant fashion, are HUGE and served with a side of fried rice and an eggroll. We order 2 dinner combos for 2 people and eat it for 4 or 5 meals - total cost about $18. It would be great if China Chef had more Sichuan food on the menu. I love spicy food and most of the items I've tried at the buffet are pretty mild. I'm sure it's just the chef cooking for the palates in the South Milwaukee area. Someday I'll try and request some spicy fish! I would also love to see the chef give jiao zi, bao zi, jian bing, or even hot pot a try! The service is pretty good and FAST. I live about 6 miles away from the place and order as I'm walking out the door. The food is always ready to go. The lunch buffet gets pretty busy (at least on Friday) because of the close proximity to Bucyrus. Howver, even with the large lunch crowd I've never had to wait. They keep stuff going to the buffet pretty quick. If you are in the South Milwaukee, Oak Creek, Cudahy area I'd give this place a shot. If you are in Northern Milwaukee somewhere I would not make the trip down. You can probably find something similar much closer to home.

I usually order their lunch specials as take out, they are very inexpensive for a large portion of food. I love their general Tso's chicken and beef lo mein.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
